Posted by Katja Wulfers at Nov 23, 2009 6:26AM PST

Picture day for our team is this Sunday at 4 pm at MSC. The boys can get dressed at home and come to the arena for 3:45. It’s pretty chaotic at the arena and there usually isn’t much space for putting on equipment. If you did not receive a picture form yesterday at practice please ask for one at tonight’s game.

HAWKS DOWN SNIPERS

17 Nov 2009
A late game goal from Harrison on a pass by Mulraney clinched the Hawks’ 5-3 win over the Brampton Snipers Tuesday evening in the Snipers’ backyard. The game was exciting and intense! Shots on net were 17-15 for Milton and Schaap and Corp made outstanding saves on 12 of those.
At 6:05 of the first period Mulraney and Evans flew up the ice with Harrison to set him up for the first goal of the game. Several minutes later a determined Snipers’ team overtook the Hawks and got a bullet shot past Schaap. The period ended in a draw.
The physical Snipers had something to prove and came on strong in the second. They took a 2-1 lead and held onto it until the closing minutes of second period play. Di Biasio found Michailoff in the crowd and he brought the puck into the Snipers’ zone. MacGregor got himself into position, accepted the pass and tied up the game. The Hawks were back in a deficit one minute later as the Snipers used their size and momentum to make the score 3-2.
Something clicked in the collective brains of the Hawks’ players and their determination was evident from the stands as they took back ownership of the game in the last period of play. It was the Evans- Mulraney-Harrison line again with the two latter providing an opportunity for Evans to put the puck past the Snipers’ goalie in the early moments of the third. One minute later Dutton got the puck to the blue line where Wulfers Joyce picked it up and slipped it to Galarneau who sent a rocket shot up into the top right. Nice revenge goal for the uncounted one by Dutton 30 seconds earlier! The Snipers tried to get back on the board, but the Hawks were unrelenting and put their fifth one in for good measure.
Way to keep your lead boys!

MILTON DOMINATES BOMBERS

The Winterhawks played host to the Brampton Bombers for the fourth game between these two teams and saw Milton skate away with a 6-1 victory. Corp was first in net and managed to block all but one of the Bombers’ shots which snuck past him part way into the second period. Schaap took over for the bottom half of the play. Both goalies had a strong showing!
First up on the board were the Winterhawks. Dickin spotted Harrison wide open deep in the Bombers’ end and made the pass. Harrison found Mulraney in a perfect position; got him the puck and he fired it in high. Several minutes later Takeuchi, Michailoff and MacGregor made great use of their breakout drills to create an opportunity for a goal from MacGregor.
The second period saw four evenly spaced goals. 30 seconds in it was Mulraney and Evans setting up Harrison. Cunha got off a great wrist shot and scored after a couple of passes from Dutton and Galarneau. Following the Bombers’ goal the Hawks decided another was in order and Wulfers Joyce sent the puck up to Harrison who passed it to MacGregor for # 4 of the game. A great play by Takeuchi and MacGregor had Takeuchi firing on the Bombers’ netminder and MacGregor picking up the rebound.
The D did a great job of taking space away from the Bombers’ forwards and blocking shots. Michailoff rounded out the scoring with an unassisted wrap-around half way through the third. Nice showing Hawks.

WINTERHAWKS GET BACK AT SNIPERS

10 Nov 2009
The last match up between these two teams resulted in a 2-2 game. This time the Winterhawks came to win. The play was crisp and quick and our defence kept the action far away from their two netminders.
The bulk of the first period saw some fairly even back and forth between the Brampton Snipers and the Hawks, but with a little over 3 minutes left Mulraney and Harrison set up Evans for the first goal of the game. With seconds to go in the period Di Biasio skated in and fired it at the net where MacGregor was able to snag the rebound and put the Hawks up 2-0.
Brampton played a physical game and Milton proved able to hold their ground. Second period was in the Hawks’ hands and they registered two more goals. The third goal came from a nice play by Takeuchi who found Harrison’s stick. Harrison rocketed the puck past the Sniper’s keeper. Dutton played a persistent game and got the puck to the net where MacGregor was ready to fire it in.
With momentum on their side the Hawks put a fifth point on the board at the tail end of the game on a sharp pass from Dutton to MacGregor. Both goalies made crucial saves for a final score of 5-0 for the Hawks. Schaap and Corp enjoyed their third shutout!

MILTON TAKES THE BATTLE OF THE BIRDS

Posted by Katja Wulfers at Nov 11, 2009 1:02PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Corp and Schaap enjoyed their second shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory over the Caledon Blackhawks. The team played a fast-paced game with a lot of passing, strong defencive work and insistent forwards. The play was primarily in the Blackhawks’ zone, but the Hawks’ goaltenders received 9 hard shots and made great saves.
The first goal saw the Winterhawks down one man with Isnor in the bin, but a nice pass from Dickin to Harrison who lobbed it up to MacGregor saw the boys take a 1-0 lead early on in the first. The battle continued for the remainder of the game as the Blackhawks kept the pressure up, but Milton’s defence consistently kept and got the play out of their own zone and to their forwards; and then stood firm on the Blackhawks’ blue line. With less than one minute of play left in the game the Hawks were determined to put another point on the board and some nice play making by MacGregor and Harrison provided Michailoff his opportunity to do just that.
Great game Winterhawks!
